This effigy was created for the SynchroniCity festival held over the July 4th weekend. The burning of this figure was the culmination of the weekend, bringing all the participants together in a creative and cathartic ritual.

My part was to create the neon that illuminated the form that several others had built. The effigy serves as the focal point of the SynchroniCity arts festival, and the whole community is present to be part of the burning.

Despite a couple close calls, however, it all managed to come together and I was very proud to provide the light for the night's festivities! This is shortly after it was lit, before the neon burned out in the heat of the flames.

The Piasa is consumed and the neon has succumb. The addition of a couple of roadside flares at the base of the platform added an amazingly saturated red glow to the wings.

A reveler rejoices, dancing past the remains. Also check out the SynchroniCity video documentary for more information.
